Effective as from October 26, 2002 patent law in Taiwan about invention will make some amendments as follows:

1. Patent application will be published automatically 18 months after the filing date /priority date if priority is to be claimed.
2. The substantial examination can be requested at the same time the application is files or has to be requested within 3 years from the filing date.
3. The official fee for patent application will be NT$2000 and NT$6000 for requesting for substantial examination.
4. Whether substantial examination shall be requested at the same time the patent application is filed or not shall be indicated upon filing.
5. If substantial examination is not requested within 3 years from the filing date, the patent application is deemed to be abandoned.
