Mr. Zhou Yongkang, State Councilor and Minister of Public Security of P.R China, paid a formal visit to US from July 26 to 29. At the end of his trip, The Joint Declaration On Furthering Law Enforcement Cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of the People’s Republic of China and the Ministry of Justice of the United States of America was signed, which indicated the two parties would strengthen cooperation in punishing infringement cases in IP field.

The two parties believed that law enforcement cooperation between China and US and efficient punishment to various kinds of crimes under the current international situation are not only in line with the common interests of the two countries, but also beneficial to the peace, stability and development in the Asia-Pacific region as well as the whole world.  In addition, they promised to deepen substantial cooperation in law enforcement and personnel exchanges, and expressed the will to enhance the cooperation in combating internet, drug and IPR infringement crimes, in information exchange concerning terrorism and in law enforcement.

During the visit, Mr. Zhou and his counterpart, Mr. Alberto Gonzales held a talk, and deeply exchanged their ideas about strengthening law enforcement as well as other matters both concerned. After reviewing the previous business exchanges and cooperation, the two ministers agreed that law enforcement was an important part and a highlight of the relation between China and US.
